Instructions for descaling:

The Scalgon descaling powder is at maximum strength when mixed with 1 litre of water. It may be weakened by mixing with quantities of water more than 1 litre.

Washing machines

Cut the corner of the sachet and empty the powder directly into the drum of the machine. Choose a programme that warms the water - the warmer, the better - and one that doesn’t permit early rinsing (which would simply eject the descaling solution). After the programme has finished, choose a rinse programme.

Dishwashers

Cut the corner of the sachet and empty the powder directly into the bottom of the dishwasher. Choose a programme that is NOT an eco setting or ‘quick wash’ - one that doesn’t permit early rinsing (which would simply eject the descaling solution).

Urns

Dose the 200g sachet at ONE litre of water - use more than one sachet for multiples of 1-litre of water. If the limescale is heaviest at the bottom of the urn, only add enough 1-litre multiples to cover that limescale - probably two sachets and 2 litres of water. Cut the corner of the sachet and add the powder to the water, not the other way around. Heat, but do not boil. Vapour will emit which is harmful, so use only in a well-ventilated area (preferably outside in the open air). When process has finished, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water. Repeat process if necessary.

Coffee-tea makers

Follow your appliance’s descaling instructions. One powder sachet will provide enough descaling solution for ONE litre of water. Rinse out with plenty of fresh water after the process has finished.

Kettles

Add one litre of water to the kettle. Cut the corner of the sachet and empty HALF the sachet powder directly into the kettle. Switch the kettle on to boil. DO NOT breathe in steam emitted from the boiling water. Leave to stand until process has finished. If descaling has been rapid, add more water to allow the descaling solution to descale further up the kettle - and re-boil. Store the other half of the Scalgon powder sachet carefully for another application. Rinse kettle with fresh water twice before using.

Small open-top water boilers

Follow your appliance’s descaling instructions. One powder sachet will provide enough descaling solution for ONE litre of water. Rinse out with plenty of fresh water after the process has finished.

Large heat exchangers

This is usually a professional process, and may require the use of a pump to drive the solution around the heat exchanger. Use several sachets - makes ONE litre of descaling solution per sachet. For professional use, email us for larger quantities.

This product must only be used by those competent enough to understand the process. This acid can blind. DO NOT use unless you have read the instructions for your descaling application, and the descaling instructions provided by your appliance manufacturer. Exercise caution at ALL times when using the powder and wear safety goggles and gloves. After the process, ensure you have thoroughly rinsed the appliance with copious amounts of fresh water.
